Moya Deigan named 2024 Lifetime Achievement Recipient

We are proud to announce the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Moya Deigan.

At the prestigious 10th Anniversary event, the Theatre Council of Tasmania is excited to be honouring stalwart of Tasmanian theatre, Moya Deigan. For over 30 years this quiet achiever has not only been an avid theatre goer, but a passionate advocate and supporter of Tasmanian theatre, involved in all aspects of theatre production. It seems fitting that Moya, who was integral to starting the Theatre Council of Tasmania and part of the team who originally set up the Awards, is to be acknowledged at this time.

One of Moya’s proudest achievements is in helping start the Tasmanian Theatre Awards. Moya fondly recalls her time on the TCT, where she got to know many of the people working in the arts across Tasmania. Moya finds it particularly rewarding to have played a part in Tasmania’s theatre history, especially one that brings artists together to share their experience and love of theatre. Ten years on, the Awards are still going strong, confirming Moya’s belief in their popularity and celebratory collegiate spirit while highlighting the strong artistic standards of our creative industry in Tasmania.

A passionate advocate for education, Moya has been an ongoing mentor to emerging artists, particularly those who work backstage. She was integral to starting the Tasmanian Theatre Council’s scholarship program, which supports emerging artists. Generous with her time, Moya is approachable to everyone, whether professional, or just starting their theatre journey.

Moya’s recent focus has been on production management. In 2023 she produced Hobart Rep’s highly successful productions of The Glass Menagerie and Jingled – two diverse shows which have both received nods in this year’s Awards. Moya is highly regarded as an exceptional producer, ensuring her directors and team are supported every step of the way. Moya is a Hobart Rep life member and is currently the Vice President. Moya is an innovative and passionate theatre-maker who exemplifies the best of Tasmanian theatre.

Moya will be honoured at the upcoming 10th Anniversary Tasmanian Theatre Awards on Saturday 2nd March.
